Check an e-invoice

Before you book or pay an e-invoice, do its numbers add up? MSGView runs a quick plausibility check on XRechnung, ZUGFeRD and Factur-X invoices in your browser and shows exactly which check did not pass — free, and the invoice is not uploaded.

Check an e-invoice in 3 steps

  1. Drop the invoiceDrag the .xml or ZUGFeRD / Factur-X .pdf (or the email it came in) onto msgview.app.
  2. Read the resultThe plausibility check sits at the top of the invoice: how many checks passed, which did not, and for each amount check that did not pass, the expected and the found amount.
  3. Act on itIf something does not add up, ask the sender for a corrected invoice before you pay.

What is checked

Whether the main required fields are present (number, date, type, currency, seller, buyer, countries, line items, totals; for XRechnung the buyer reference), and whether the arithmetic holds: line items add up to the sum of line items, allowances and charges to the net total, the VAT breakdown to the VAT total, net plus VAT to gross, and gross minus prepaid plus rounding to the amount due. Each check names the rule it follows (EN 16931 or XRechnung).

What is not checked

This is not an official validation. The official XRechnung validation (KoSIT) applies hundreds of schema and business rules that MSGView does not. An invoice can pass every check here and still be rejected. For a full check against the official rules, use the KoSIT validator or your accounting software's validation; whether an invoice is accepted is decided by its recipient.

Private by design

The check runs in your browser. The invoice is never uploaded.

FAQ

Is this an official XRechnung validation?

No. It is a plausibility check of required fields and amounts. It does not confirm that an invoice is legally valid or will be accepted.

Which formats can be checked?

XRechnung in UBL and CII, ZUGFeRD 1.0 and 2.x, and Factur-X — as an .xml file, a PDF with embedded XML, or an attachment inside an .msg or .eml email.

What does a warning about quantity × price mean?

A line amount differs from quantity times unit price. EN 16931 leaves some rounding open, so this is shown as a note, not a failure.

Is my invoice uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.
