VCF → Excel / CSV: contacts into a table

Phones and mail programs export contacts as a .vcf file (vCard), which is hard to read or import elsewhere. MSGView shows them as a table and saves Excel or CSV with columns for Google Contacts or Outlook — in your browser, without uploading your contacts.

Drag a .vcf file here

One file with many contacts, or many files with one each.

The example opens built-in made-up contacts, so you can see the result first.

.vcf · .vcard — vCard 2.1, 3.0, 4.0 (iPhone, Android, Outlook, Gmail)

Convert VCF to Excel in 3 steps

  1. Drop the .vcf file Export the contacts from your phone or mail program and drag the file onto the page.
  2. Choose the columns “for Google” matches the Google Contacts import; “for Outlook” matches Outlook's.
  3. Download Download Excel (.xlsx) or CSV.

What is read

Names (also phonetic names, as Japanese phones write them), phone numbers, e-mail addresses, postal addresses, organisation, job title, birthday, web sites and notes. Photos are not carried over.

Old phones and other alphabets

vCard 2.1 files with quoted-printable text and Shift-JIS from Japanese phones are decoded, as well as UTF-8 files in any language.

Safe to open in Excel

A value that starts with = + − or @ is written so that Excel shows it as text and does not run it as a formula.
